GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is due to come into effect in the UK on the 25th May 2018.
It will effectively be replacing existing Data Protection regulation.
When GDPR comes into effect, UK businesses need to be prepared for the changes and alter the way they store and collect data.
- You will need to demonstrate greater clarity of how customers opt in for information, what data they want and what data you hold
- You will need to give control back to customers with the data you hold and give them the option to edit or even remove it
- You will need to shore up your security and take reasonable measures to ensure the data you hold is safe at all times
- You will be subject to a stricter ruling as the ICO are having their powers extended to help protect UK consumers from having their data stolen
Businesses need to make themselves fully aware of GDPR and what it means to them and how it effects the relationship with their existing and new customers and what measures they need to put in place to comply.
